The first two weeks of Term two this year presented many challenges for students, families and teachers alike. One of the challenges that was common to all students was how to work from home safely, effectively and productively.
To meet this challenge, Senior Design Teacher Mr Calvin Tsang ran a competition with the Year 10 Design students to designing products, services and environments that could help students and their families thrive in the remote learning situation.
Under Mr Tsang’s expert guidance, students generated innovative, sustainable, useful and aesthetic solutions that resolved some of the unique problems presented by remote schooling.
Congratulations to Rubitha K, Breanna B and Tylah M who received prizes, sponsored by the Technologies and Design Department, for their outstanding work. Caleb Allen, Makayla Brown and Dhannya Philip also received high commendations for their entries. Winners were voted by years 10 and 11 Design students and teachers using criteria such as functionality, innovation and aesthetics. Thank you to all students, parents and staff who collaborated so well during this Online Competition; your resourcefulness and openness have enrichened Design education at Northside during the remote learning phase.
