Our intro to Northside Christian College

Our family first came to the College in 2013, when we moved to Brisbane from a small town in regional Queensland. At the time of moving we didn’t have a plan about where we would live (north or south Brisbane), or where our two children would continue their schooling.

Our move was quick and so, with trusting the Lord and talking to friends who had previously moved to Northside, we chose to apply for enrolment with the College from Term 2 of that year.

Volunteering … A way to connect

Parent Volunteers at Northside Christian CollegeWe were fortunate there were places for both our children to be enrolled at the same time, and we were made to feel very welcome by the College community. Because we arrived part way through the year, I didn’t attend the new parents’ morning tea; however, I was invited by the Coffee Club convenor to join the College Café team.

I chose to join the Café roster and I enjoyed getting to know the ladies and the other volunteer mums (and a dad!)

I’ve also gleaned invaluable food preparation tips from Penny and the team, which I now practise on the family at home!

I highly recommend putting your hand up for the Café, especially if you are new to the College. For me it has been a simple way I can help and a great space to make new friends.

Oh – and the gluten-free melting moments are amazing! Seriously. They will change your life.

Time commitment?

During the last 3-4 years, I’ve helped weekly, once or twice a term, or just on an ‘on call’ basis, depending on my work and family commitments at the time. At times, I’ve been unable to be on roster at all.

No matter how often you can help out, you will ALWAYS feel greatly appreciated when you walk into the Café.
