Sophia Savage, our Year 12 Missions Vice Captain, was nominated for a Secondary Schools Citizenship Award from The Order of Australia Association Queensland Branch for 2021
Even though Sophia was not successful, her nomination has highlighted her outstanding service to our school and the community. The service Sophia has given to others makes her an outstanding role model for fellow students, family, friends and the people who benefit from her citizenship activities. In recognition of Sophia's contribution to our school and community The Order of Australia Association, Queensland Branch takes pleasure in presenting her with a Certificate of Community Service. A short excerpt of her nomination Is below:
Sophia is a servant-hearted, compassionate leader who is enthusiastic, encouraging and authentic. Her deeds and words give a consistent message of caring for and loving others, valuing people and relationships, and putting the needs of others above her own. She is an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing valuable ideas and reliably helping the team to reach its goals. Sophia empowered a team of students to advocate for the Secondary School sponsor children as well as coordinating the Can Appeal and Jumper Drive event to raise awareness and resources for the homeless of Brisbane. Sophia effectively led a large group of students to run Missions Week activities, which included Middle School simulations, a Prayer Vigil, and an Assembly Item. She attends Valley Street Ministry to feed the homeless, further demonstrating her heart for the poor and marginalised.
In her role as Musical Dance Captain, she capably mentored her dancers and was integral in the choreography. In addition, Sophia is a Mooting team member, participating in Griffith’s Mooting Competition and is involved in UN Youth Australia. Sophia is actively involved in her Church Creative Team; she serves on her Church Sunday worship team and is a Youth Team Leader as well as a Kids’ Youth volunteer. Sophia is a passionate young woman whose heart for others is integral to her character. Her outstanding leadership skills and capacity make her a valued community leader in her many spheres of influence.
