About Northside Christian College, Brisbane
With a heart for Christian families, Northside Christian College was established in 1985 to provide an education that was academically excellent and spiritually wholesome for local Christian church members.
Over thirty-five years later, Northside is now a leading private, co-educational, non-denominational Brisbane Christian college in Everton Park. Our heartbeat and foundation remain the same, our academic results speak for themselves, and our community is ever-growing.
We offer Christ-centred education from Prep to Year 12 on one campus, and partner with our families and their churches to raise disciples of Jesus; educated and equipped for any future.
With the focus firmly on ‘Character through Christ’, the College has become respected for great academic results, commitment to character development, sporting spirit, and passionate community service.
We are Northside.
Vision
Northside Christian College is a leader in Christian education in Brisbane, preparing students who will be transformational in their spheres of influence. We work to intentionally raise up future leaders.
Mission
We are daily committed to our mission, which is: ‘To make disciples of Jesus Christ, educated and equipped for any future.’
Faith
Faith in Christ is seen as the foundation to life. Each student is provided with the opportunity to understand the teaching of the Scriptures and to become a follower of Jesus Christ in both belief and action.
Character through Christ
Character through Christ is the DNA of the College. It's built into every facet of Northside, aspired to by all, from staff and students to our wider community. We partner with parents and churches to foster authentic faith that is characterised by active love and dedication to the teachings of Christ. We teach a little by what we say; we teach more by what we do; and we teach most by who we are - our life, disposition, attitude, reactions, godly decorum, and ethos of influence.
The College is not an escape or protection, but a proactive enabling of our students for life and excellence in education. It sets them up with a strong Christian worldview that enables them to respond with a good apologetic to a non-Christian worldview.
Statement of Faith
OUR BELIEFS
We believe that the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative and applicable to our everyday lives.
We believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is totally loving and completely holy.
We believe that sin has separated each of us from God and His purpose for our lives. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ as both God and man is the only One who can reconcile us to God. He lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross in our place, and rose again to prove His victory and empower us for life.
We believe that in order to receive forgiveness and the ‘new birth’ we must repent of our sins, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and submit to His will for our lives.
We believe that in order to live the holy and fruitful lives that God intends for us, we need to be baptised with water and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
We believe that God has individually equipped us so that we can successfully achieve His purpose for our lives which is to worship God, fulfil our role in the Church and serve the community in which we live.
We believe that God wants to heal and transform us so that we can live healthy and prosperous lives in order to help others more effectively.
We believe that our eternal destination of either Heaven or hell is determined by our response to the Lord Jesus Christ.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again as He promised.
Historical Christian faith and education
We believe that a Christian is a person who has acknowledged Jesus Christ as both Saviour and Lord of his/her life. That is, a Christian is a person who:
- believes that Jesus Christ, God’s only Son,
- died and rose again
- has recognised his/her sinful condition
- has received forgiveness of his/her sins through faith in Jesus Christ and
- seeks to live his/her life in obedience to God’s Word - the Bible.
Christianity is, in essence, an ongoing relationship with God – not just a Sunday morning event, but a way of life.
Our catchment area is not geographical, but spiritual. The Northside community is enriched by students and families from more than 100 churches of various denominations, although the majority comes from evangelical, charismatic or pentecostal churches. Some of these include:
- Australian Christian Churches (formerly AOG)
- Baptist
- Catholic
- Anglican
- Wesleyan Methodist
- Lutheran
- Pentecostal
- Presbyterian
- Reformed Churches
- Uniting Church of Australia
The style of worship at the College is contemporary. As far as possible, students are the musicians, singers and leaders of worship and chapels. Our students love worshipping alongside their classmates and peers and expressing their faith through music.
College Principal, Northside Christian College
Mr. Leighton Kuss
At the centre of everything we do as a community is a love for Jesus Christ.
He is the reason the College exists, and following him is the unifying force among our staff and families. The College was born out of a desire to create an environment that fosters rich and respectful collaboration between children’s most important influencers: parents, church and school.
Our students thrive—body, soul, and spirit—in an educational setting that caters to a wide variety of interests and needs. Approachable, dedicated staff and a safe, supportive community help children flourish. We equip our students to think well, believe strongly, strive for excellence and practise personal integrity.
We care, most of all, what kind of person each young man and woman becomes.
Northside Christian College Alumni
We seek to inspire students to become disciples of Jesus Christ, who in turn inspire, lead, and become transformational in their spheres of influence.
With 3,000+, Alumni outcomes have stretched from health professionals, entrepreneurial businesses, pastoral and parachurch ministries, and beyond.

Governance
Northside Christian College is a ministry of Nexus Church. The church began as an outreach ministry in the Stafford area (North Brisbane) in 1952. The Church moved to its present location in Everton Park in 1976 with just 80 people. Over the last few decades, Nexus has grown into a large, thriving Christian community in the northern suburbs of Brisbane.
Reflections from the Founding Pastor, John Lewis
‘Nexus’ means ‘a point of connection’, and the desire of the church is to be a life-giving Church – helping connect people to God, community and purpose.
Leadership and Board and Directors
The Directors of Northside are appointed by Nexus Church and are responsible for the spiritual, legal and financial oversight of the College. Managerial responsibility for the College's operations is delegated by the Directors to the Principal.
Board of Directors of Northside Christian College
As a Board, we are uncompromising in our commitment for the College to remain an excellent educational facility. We are a unique Christian college, in that we are staffed, led and populated by families who have an active and genuine faith in Jesus Christ. This has a profoundly positive impact on Northside’s culture.

Our History
Founded in faith
Founders saw the opportunity to support their church and further their calling by creating a 'Christian school for Christian families'.
Built by blessing
Despite adversity, God has blessed our College with development and growth - from 13 students to 1,200+.
Strength through sacrifice
Our founding teachers saw Northside as a ministry, initially volunteering to go with minimal pay in order to establish the school. You can read more about the early days of Northside here.
